The National Weather Service said that a Fire Weather Watch is in effect Tuesday through Friday for portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Bass arrives in Accra, Ghana, on a US Air Force Gulfstream C-37B, according to flight tracking data reviewed by CBS News.

The National Weather Service posted escalating warnings about the threat of widespread damaging winds and extreme fire weather conditions and issued a red flag warning at around 2:40 p.m.

The warnings escalated further. The National Weather Service warned of a “particularly dangerous situation,” one of its most urgent alerts, at 3:24 p.m. LA City Emergency Alerts shared a fire department warning just before 7 p.m. of extreme fire danger and dangerous winds. At 7:38 p.m., Mayor Bass posted her first statement about the fires, sharing outdated information from hours earlier.

The swearing in of Ghana’s President-elect John Dramani Mahama started around 10 a.m. local time on January 7, or 2 a.m. in Los Angeles time, according to Ghana Ministry of Information's livestream. The event went on for around 6 hours.

The Palisades Fire broke out, according to Cal Fire.

11:50 a.m. PST

Mayor Bass posts on X about the Palisades Fire, and had earlier posted to her website.

Bass’s spokesperson, Zach Seidl, told the LA Times that she was on her way back to Los Angeles at around 1 p.m. Flight data provided by Flightradar indicates Bass departed Ghana on a military plane at 1:08 p.m. PST.

Bass landed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, according to flight tracking data reviewed by CBS News.

6 a.m. PST

Bass departed Dulles International Airport on a flight to Los Angeles at around 6 a.m., according to a CBS News review of flight schedules and video.

Over 70,000 people were under mandatory evacuation orders, and another 30,000 faced evacuation warnings, city officials announced at a press conference.

Bass’s flight lands at Los Angeles International Airport. A Sky News reporter confronted Bass after she got off the plane.
